FAQ:
What’s included?
Just bring yourself – we organise everything from the moment you land in Bishkek until we drop you back at the airport. No driving is required from your side.
Our tours typically include:
All in-country transport for the duration of the tour
Accommodation for the full itinerary (yurt camps, guesthouses, homestays and/or villas, depending on the tour)
Full-board meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Local guides, porters and cooks
Entrance fees to national parks, hot springs and listed attractions
Workshops and masterclasses (for example eagle hunting, horse games, shooting, etc.)
Not included: Insurance, flight tickets, tips for guides (optional), alcohol.
What should I bring?
Our team will send a short packing list with recommended clothing and equipment for your specific tour. In general, we recommend layering with merino and wool – it can be warm during the day but cold at night, especially in the mountains.
Summer: during the day temperatures can reach around 30 °C, while nights at higher altitudes can drop close to 0 °C.
Winter/spring: in high mountain areas such as Son-Kul (above 3,000 m) temperatures can fall to –20 °C and rise to around +15 °C during the day. Proper winter gear – warm jacket, hat, gloves, insulated boots and base layers – is essential.
Do I need a visa for Kyrgyzstan?
Citizens of many countries (including the USA, UK and most of Europe) can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for short stays. Visa rules can change, so please check the latest information for your passport on official government websites or services such as Passport Index before you travel.
Where will we be staying?
You do not need to arrange any accommodation yourself unless you choose to arrive earlier or stay longer. During the tour we usually stay in a mix of hotels, yurt camps, homestays and, on some itineraries, tents in the mountains.
How are the weather conditions?
Summer (especially July–August) is one of the best times to visit Kyrgyzstan, with long daylight hours and beautiful golden light at sunrise and sunset. Because we travel to higher altitudes (2,500 m and above), you should still be prepared for cold nights and rapid weather changes.
Winter and spring are also spectacular. Some passes and roads may be closed, but many routes can still be reached on horseback, as we do on our trips. It will be cold, and full winter gear – jacket, hat, gloves and good footwear – is required.
What and where will we eat?
Most meals are at local restaurants, cafés and family guesthouses. During treks and in remote areas, our team or porters cook for the group. If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate them.
Insurance and Health Issues
Our itineraries do not include extremely technical or mountaineering routes, but you should be in reasonable physical condition – able to hike for up to 4–6 hours at a moderate pace. Some days, such as the Ala-Kul trek on selected tours, are more demanding due to altitude and weather, but we will brief you carefully and adjust the pace.
Before arrival, you must arrange suitable travel insurance that covers medical care and adventure activities such as horse riding and hiking at altitude. Our team will be with you throughout the trip, but you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. You will be asked to sign a liability form confirming that you accept the risks associated with this type of adventure travel.
